What Is CotCloud?

CotCloud is Vault & Co's name for everything that makes its men's cotton trunks comfortable: a 95% super-combed cotton / 5% Lycra fabric knit at thread level, a wide, flat, zero-pressure waistband stitched directly to the body fabric, flat seams, and a mid-rise, true trunk-length cut that does not ride up. It is developed in-house and it is in every Vault & Co trunk.

What CotCloud is, and what it is not

It is not a fabric name, and it is not a coating or a treatment. It is the combination of three decisions that have to be made together: what the cloth is made of, how the garment is built, and what shape it is cut to. Change any one of the three and the trunk stops behaving the way it should by the end of the day. CotCloud is the word for all three made the right way.

The five things it gets right

  1. Zero-pressure waistband. Wide and flat, made from an engineered microfiber and stitched directly to the body fabric, so the load spreads instead of concentrating in a narrow line. Why underwear leaves marks on your waist.
  2. Moisture-wicking cotton. Cotton absorbs and releases sweat rather than trapping it against the skin, which matters more than wicking speed in humid air. What breathable actually means.
  3. High-stretch cotton fabric. Lycra knit in at thread level, so the fabric gives across the seat and hip and springs back instead of loosening. How much cotton underwear should stretch.
  4. Super-combed cotton. Combing removes the short fibres that would otherwise work loose and roughen the surface, which is why the softness lasts past the first wash. Combed versus carded cotton.

Why we build it this way

Most underwear is judged in the first five minutes: how it feels in the hand, how it looks on the shelf. Almost everything that goes wrong with underwear goes wrong later. The waistband that marks by evening, the surface that roughens after twenty washes, the leg that rides up the moment you sit. CotCloud is built for the later test, which is the one nobody can stage in a shop.
